Free course to calculate your carbon footprint

Find out how to cut your energy costs, calculate your carbon footprint and get your business to Net Zero with Surrey County Council’s free course and carbon calculator tool.

Sessions are taking place in person throughout Autumn 2024, as well as online availability.

The course will:

  • introduce a bit of business context relating to climate change and carbon literacy,
  • help you understand where your business’ emissions lay,
  • enable you to calculate your business carbon footprint;
  • help you become more sustainable, reduce your energy costs and cut your carbon footprint
  • help you define your business path to Net Zero, set targets and leverage your efforts to make your business more competitive and your products and services more desirable
  • and empower you to adapt and build resilience to address climate change

The business decarbonisation course and carbon calculator tool are available to businesses based in the participating Boroughs of Woking, Guildford, Waverley, Reigate and Banstead, Spelthorne and Surrey Heath.

Free business decarbonisation assessment

Get help going green with a free decarbonisation assessment from Surrey County Council.

We do a virtual walk around your premises to better understand energy use, limitations, opportunities, as well as getting an overview of your purchases, supply chain and transport usage.

You will then be issued with a personalised report and a list of potential decarbonisation projects for your consideration along with useful links. This should hopefully help inform your decarbonisation journey and help you decide on your future decarbonisation projects.

The assessment will take the form of a 45 minutes to an hour call.

Once complete, you will have the opportunity to access a business decarbinisation loan of up to ยฃ15,000.

There is no obligation to progress any of the potential projects to a loan application.

The business decarbonisation assessment is operated by Surrey County Council and available to small and medium enterprises (SME) and charities located in participating Boroughs of Woking, Guildford, Waverley, Reigate and Banstead, Spelthorne and Surrey Heath.

Rural England Prosperity Fund Grant

Businesses in the rural areas of Waverley, Guildford and Tandridge can apply for a Rural England Prosperity Fund (REPF) grant.

The minimum grant is ยฃ2,500 and the maximum grant is ยฃ50,000. Grants are up to 50% of the project costs. The programme is financed by Defra as part of the levelling up agenda via the district and borough councils.

The objectives of the grants are to support rural development, jobs, growth and community enterprise.

This provides grants to farmers and land managers in the Surrey Hills for one-off projects to make improvements to the natural environment, climate change mitigation, cultural heritage and public access on their land.
